Revolving Doors

There’s something that needs to be said about revolving doors. You know the ones I mean – the slow lumbering circular structures typically carved up into 3 identical pie pieces which demand you to pick one and then enter at your own peril. Upon entry you are usually greeted with the droning voice “Please step forward.” or some instruction of a similar nature. I suppose these were invented for a couple of reasons – an airlock to keep cold weather out in winter and hot weather out in summer, and to provide some assistance to travelers who might be carrying parcels and/or flight bags and luggage and are thus devoid of any free hands.

Regardless, I hate ‘em. Once I’ve commited I’m at the mercy of the door, slowly marching forward at a pre-defined pace, making sure I move forward in time with the door’s rotation. God forbid that I might drop something! And another thing…picking the pie slice within which to travel reminds me of the days of trying to make the choice of when to leap into the rhythm of the ever-turning skipping rope.

No sir, revolving doors aren’t for me. It’s just another one of those choices in life I’d rather not have to worry about making.
